New Brewery Spotlight: Mystic Brewing
Brewers have been brewing with local ingredients for centuries, ingredients that define their beers’ tastes – Belgians, for instance, would brew krieks exclusively with now-rare Schaarbeek cherries. This was, of course, when being a locavore was the only option.
If you like your craft beer, you’ve probably had an American beer made (fermented) with local plums or cherries, maybe even [...]
New Brooklyn Brewery Swallows Old One
Some scientists believe the new Brooklyn Brewery is so large that other, smaller breweries, including the old Brooklyn Brewery will begin to orbit it. Their massive expansion is well under way, though you might not know it from the latest photos. The brewery has selected The Beer Friends to document the expansion by visiting weekly [...]
Peek Inside Greenpoint Beerworks
While Sixpoint has suspended their summer Saturday tours, Kelso of Brooklyn is finally letting in some lucky few.
The most recent brewery in Brooklyn to pair up with UrbanOyster, Kelso is now hosting tours on Wednesday evenings as part of the organization’s weekday edition of their popular Brewed in Brooklyn walking tour. For $49, walking tours [...]
The Value of Chelsea Brewing Company
After writing about the beer-related reality show Red White & Brewed earlier this week, I’ve come across some unrelated internet chatter about the sincerity of the producers’ love for craft beer, questioning the direction of their motivation. It even sparked a response on Red White & Brewed’s blog, trying to appeal to the die-hard and [...]
Saturdays at Sixpoint
If you’ve been on the Brooklyn Brewery tour, you know that the two best parts are that it’s free and it’s short, so you can move on to drinking at the picnic tables. If you’re into beer a little more than the average Joe, then staring at the tanks and hearing how beer is made [...]
Blog of the Week: Lunch at Sixpoint
It’s safe to say that Cathy Erway’s first sojourn into the blogosphere, Not Eating Out in NY, inspired a lot of us to dust of the stove, or you know, take all of those sweaters out of our oven.
Which is why we’re so very excited for her newest endeavor, Lunch at Sixpoint, which launched Monday. [...]
The Bronx Brewery Seeks Cash Moneys
The New York Homebrewers Guild on Tuesday hosted guest speaker Damian Brown, head brewer of planned The Bronx Brewery, at Burp Castle. Brown, a graduate of the intensive UC Davis Brew Master Program and former assistant brewer at Shenendoah Brewing Co in Virginia, updated the group on his preferred techniques in brewing and their status [...]

Coney Island to Open World’s Smallest Non-Production Brewery
Coney Island is finally moving to Coney Island. That is, Schmaltz Brewing Company, those menches behind Coney Island and He’brew, will be setting up a pint-sized booth on Coney Island right next to the freak show on 12th street.
Set to open in May, the 175-square-foot booth will be producing roughly 3-gallon sized batches. For all [...]
Founders Keepers!
If you hold out long enough, you’ll make me use exclamation points. And that’s exactly what Founders Brewery out of Grand Rapids, Michigan did. If you no longer feel like making the nice country-bumpkin ride to Stockertown, PA (sorry Stockertown, but let’s be honest), which is the closest distributor of Founders, then you’ll want to [...]
