Tonight, Brooklyn Brine’s new pickle
Tonight head to Old Time Drink Night at Kill Devil Hill in Greenpoint where pickle masters Brooklyn Brine will unveil their latest and perhaps greatest creations — The Whiskey Sour Pickle. The pickle is made with McKenzie Rye Whiskey from Fingerlakes Distillery in upstate (what? no Brooklyn whiskey? tsk tsk). Event is 6 to 9pm. [...]
Brooklyn Has Its Own Food App
The only surprise here, really, is that its taken this long, but at long last Brooklyn has its very own iPhone app, Brooklyn Restaurant Scout. The app, which bills itself as “the first food app that’s just for Brooklyn,” provides restaurant listings and reviews, plus contact info, photos, and walking and driving directions. Search [...]
Brunch at Seersucker
A few weekends ago, we finally made our way down to Seersucker to check out brunch. Though Seersucker has taken a fair amount of flack from the city’s critics, I’ve found it to be a consistently good place, all three times I’ve been (though I will concede, as some have pointed out, the food is [...]
Tasting Notes: Nettle Meadow Honey Lavender Fromage Blanc
At the market the other day, I noticed this Nettle Meadow Honey Lavender Fromage Blanc and immediately put it in my bag. I was looking for a snack, and though I’m not big into flavored cheeses I’d never heard of Nettle Meadow before, so my interest was piqued.
This is a sweet, mild and very lightly [...]
This Weekend: SCRATCHgathering
On Sunday, celebrate SCRATCHbread and head to the new Bedford Avenue storefront to raise a glass to the new bread workshop and test out some new tasty bites. 2 to 6 pm. Check out the event’s Facebook page for more info.
Brooklyn Paper Round-Up
Brooklyn may have gotten snubbed in the Vendy Award nominations, but that doesn’t mean we don’t got the chops. This week I checked out Jen ’n Outlaw’s Fish Fry Truck and Crawfish Boil as part of the paper’s round-up of the borough’s best food vendors.

The DIY Kitchen: Sun Tea
Now that the hot days are wavering, I am savoring every last moment of sunshine. As a sort of literal embodiment of this, I have been making sun tea. Loads and loads of sun tea.
The recipe is simple: combine fresh herbs, maybe some citrus peel or cucumber slices, and hot water into a large [...]
Salvaging a Bad Bunch of Peaches
I was already pretty disappointed with my inaugural FreshDirect order, when I cut open three pounds of peaches that had failed to really ripen, only to find that insides were mealy and nearly gray. Gross.
I had intended to turn them into jam — a peach jalapeno jam I’ve been hankering to make for about three [...]
